Shared Table was established in late 2017 as God inspired Bernie Nelson to provide a little food help for people in our neighborhoods. He had helped provide meals twice a month for a community in York city and felt God was telling him to do something similar in Etters.
In January 2018, with a great volunteer crew from the Goldsboro Church and the larger community, we served 75 meals out of the Goldsboro Borough building. Over the course of that year, the average number of meals increased to 125 each week, along with a limited variety of fresh and canned items.
By mid 2019 York Benevolent Association began providing a wider and consistent variety of pantry items for our guests. By the Fall of 2019, New Hope Ministries was expanding their services into the Etters zip code and began their mobile food pantry in October twice each month.
When the COVID-19 restrictions prevented us from preparing takeout meals, we did a review of the two years' ministry. We realized that our original mission of helping provide a little food help for people was not only met, but exceeded! God be praised!
As a result, we ceased providing the takeout meals in March 2020, but continue to seek and to provide/coordinate volunteers for New Hope Ministries when they visit Goldsboro. At this point, New Hope Ministries comes on the 2nd Saturdays (11 am) and 4th Thursdays (3 pm). During the COVID-19 period, the hours have been shortened from 2 hours to one hour each visit.
