Our friend David is cheerful, prayerful, faithful ... and sometimes forgetful. You can expect him to come up to you each Sunday with a big smile on his face saying: "I've got a surprise for you!" He then goes on to tell you about someone he has invited to join us in worship the following week or some other idea he has to enhance our worship or outreach to others.
When I read 2 Kings 5 I can almost hear the little servant girl telling her mistress: "I've got a surprise for you!"
Naaman's wife spoke to him of this new hope, that there was a prophet in Israel who could do what his prestige, power and pocketbook could not: heal him. Once in Israel Naaman initially rejects the word of the LORD. He was upset at the poor diplomatic etiquette displayed by Elisha and then he felt humiliated by the simple command for healing. Obedience is a simple thing, but as we all know, it is not necessarily easy. But, at the respectful admonishment of his servants, Naaman relented and obeyed God's command.
Voila! He was healed! "Now I know that there is no God in all the world, except in Israel!"
Who would have thought this young girl (forcefully displaced from family, friends, familiar culture) would be the change agent in this powerful figure's life?
God likes to use very ordinary people to be His carriers of Good News. Who in your circles needs to hear: "I've got a surprise for you!"? Let them know about this God who is so passionate about them!
